About PRAVISE

Practicable Advisory Solutions. The name is the brief.

Independent advisory, documentation and compliance support for smaller construction and hospitality businesses — and for the clients on the receiving end.

Why we exist

Big-firm compliance advice is written for big firms. Most businesses aren't one.

A five-person building firm and a twelve-cover café have the same legal duties as a national contractor or a restaurant group — but none of the compliance department, the retained solicitor or the in-house health and safety manager. What they usually get instead is a generic template pack, an annual invoice, and no idea whether any of it would stand up if someone asked.

PRAVISE exists to close that gap. We help you ensure you have peace of mind with your needs, obligations and expectations. Our services are built around your requirements, so you have full understanding, transparency, and the knowledge that what you are undertaking is compliant, practical, cost effective, safe and traceable.

Whether you are the business delivering a product or service, or the client at the receiving end, we are here to help you. That second half matters: a homeowner managing a £60k extension carries real exposure and almost never has anyone independent in their corner.

Two sectors

Two industries, one method

Construction and hospitality look nothing alike from the outside. Underneath, the failure modes are identical — unclear briefs, undocumented decisions, workarounds that become habits, and no dated evidence when it's needed. So the method doesn't change between a building site and a busy kitchen. Only the language, the paperwork and who's asking.

Hospitality advice here comes from someone who runs a commercial kitchen, not from a checklist. Construction advice comes from time on small residential and commercial sites where the programme, the budget and the paperwork are all owned by the same two or three people.

The people

Two of us. You will always speak to one of them.

PRAVISE is a family-run practice built by two people who spent their working lives in the two industries it serves. There is no account manager and no team of juniors doing the work behind a familiar name — the person who takes your first call is the person who walks your site or your kitchen, writes your report and picks up the phone six months later.

Patrick Murphy

Patrick on LinkedIn ↗

Patrick has spent more than twenty-five years in commercial construction, mostly on the building envelope side — fenestration, curtain walling and the structural detail behind them. The work ran from early design intent through to final sign-off on site, which is where he got comfortable with the part most people find tedious: CDM duties, method statements that match the actual sequence of work, and being able to show who decided what, and when.

Some of it was a long way from Kent. In the UAE he led the move of a twenty-four-hour production facility into new premises without stopping fabrication. In South Africa he ran the uPVC and aluminium profile manufacturing and installation side of a Dutch EPS producer alongside business improvement work. Years spent with German and Belgian manufacturing and supply partners taught him that most project problems are really people not talking to each other in time.

What that adds up to day to day is someone who has stood on both sides of the fence — the contractor being asked for the paperwork, and the client trying to work out whether it is any good. He is easy to talk to, hard to fluster, and far more interested in getting a job to run smoothly than in being the cleverest person in the room.

Joanne Meredith

Joanne on LinkedIn ↗

Joanne came up through kitchens and is a working head chef, so when she talks about production, ordering, allergens or what happens on a genuinely bad Saturday, it comes from behind the pass rather than out of a manual. That is the difference owners tend to notice first.

Her career has taken in some demanding rooms — hospitality service within the Houses of Parliament, and commercial catering across the education and premium care sectors, where standards are watched closely and there is very little room for improvisation. HACCP, allergen control, COSHH and food safety records are ordinary daily work to her, not an annual panic before an inspection.

She is warm with kitchen teams and straight with owners, which turns out to be the combination that gets things changed. Staff tell her what actually happens on a Friday night, and that is usually where the real risk is hiding — not in the folder.

The four principles

Four things bring it back to level, every time.

01

Clarity

Everyone knows what is required — in words your team, your client and an inspector all read the same way.

02

Control

The work happens the way it should, in the right order, by people qualified to do it.

03

Evidence

Dated, signed proof sitting in one place, ready the moment somebody asks for it.

04

Improvement

Better next month than this one. Small changes you can actually sustain day to day.

Where we draw the line

What we won't do.

No hidden agenda. No fine print. Just honest, straightforward advice — exactly as it should be.

Credentials

  • Professional indemnity and public liability insurance — certificates on request
  • Hands-on commercial kitchen operator, not a desk-only auditor
  • Construction site experience across small residential and commercial works
  • Independent of every supplier, contractor and product manufacturer
  • Plain-English reporting written for owners, not for other consultants

01

We don't sell products

No commission, no preferred suppliers, no kit you didn't ask about. If a £15 thermometer solves it, we'll say so.

02

We don't inflate scope

Every recommendation is judged on one question: does this reduce your risk and make your life easier? If the answer is no, it doesn't go in the report.

03

We don't hide behind jargon

Regulations get quoted where they matter and translated everywhere else. You should be able to hand our report to your team and have them act on it.

Insurance

PRAVISE carries professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Certificates are available on request before any engagement begins — ask on the first call and we'll send them over with the fee proposal.
